Frequently Asked Questions - Ford Radio Installation
What wiring harness do I need for my Ford F150 aftermarket radio? It depends on the year. For 1998-2005 Ford F150 models, use our AHH-70-1771 series (replaces the Metra 70-1771). For 2004-2013 Ford F150 models with steering wheel button wiring, use our AHH-70-5520 series (replaces the Metra 70-5520). We have versions pre-wired for Pioneer, Sony, and ATOTO head units so you can install with zero soldering. |
Can I install an aftermarket radio in my Ford without cutting wires? Yes! All of our Ford wiring harnesses are 100% plug and play. They connect directly between your Ford factory wiring and your aftermarket head unit - no cutting, splicing, or soldering required. This preserves your factory wiring so you can always go back to the stock radio. |
What is the difference between the Metra 70-5520 and 70-1771 Ford harnesses? The Metra 70-5520 fits select 2004-2013 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles and includes wiring for steering wheel audio controls. The Metra 70-1771 fits select 1998-2005 Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles. Our pre-wired versions of both harnesses add a direct plug connector for Pioneer, Sony, or ATOTO head units, eliminating the need to solder. |
Will my steering wheel controls still work with an aftermarket radio in my Ford? Yes - our AHH-70-5520 series harnesses include the steering wheel control wiring. When paired with a compatible head unit, your steering wheel audio buttons will continue to function. Some head units may also require an SWC interface module like the ASWC-1. |
Do I need a parking brake bypass for my Pioneer head unit? If your Pioneer head unit requires a parking brake signal to enable video playback or certain settings, and you do not have easy access to the parking brake wire, our plug and play bypass module will enable full functionality. It plugs directly into our Ford wiring harness adapters. |
What Ford vehicles do these harnesses fit? Our harnesses cover Ford F150, F250, F350 Super Duty, Mustang, Explorer, Ranger, Expedition, Excursion, Escape, Focus, Fusion, Edge, and Transit, as well as Lincoln Town Car, Navigator, MKZ, and Mercury Grand Marquis and Mountaineer. Use our Vehicle Compatibility Database to find the exact harness for your year, make, and model. |
How long does it take to install a Ford plug and play wiring harness? Most of our plug and play Ford wiring harnesses can be connected in under 15 minutes. The hardest part of the install is usually removing the factory radio from the dash. No special tools or soldering equipment are needed for the wiring harness connection. |
